Children & parental consent

Information for students under 18, parents, guardians and schools using EduCareersPath.

Draft updated Version 1.1-draft

Students deserve guidance that respects their age, privacy and developing choices. This proposed policy applies to under-18s and explains the responsibilities of parents, lawful guardians, schools and EduCareersPath.

01Age and current availability

For this policy, a child is a person under 18. Adult registration and purchasing must be done by a person legally competent to contract. A parent or lawful guardian must provide the authority and permissions required for a child’s participation.

The parental-verification flow is not yet active.Until it is available, an under-18 student should not independently register or submit assessment answers, AI prompts or other personal information. An age entry, parent account label or declaration alone is not verifiable parental consent. Contact the team before arranging a child’s participation.

02Parental permission and verification

Before enabling child data processing that requires parental consent, the operator must explain the information collected, specific purposes, recipients, AI involvement, retention, available choices and withdrawal process. It must verify the consenting adult’s identity and authority using a lawful, proportionate process. Separate choices must be provided where needed for optional features or disclosures. Do not email identity documents or a child’s records unless a secure, necessary verification process has been explained.

03Safeguards for assessments and AI

Child-facing processing must be assessed for harm, including the effect of profiling, labels and recommendations on a student’s well-being. Career results are exploratory guidance, not a fixed measure of worth or a restriction on a child’s future. Important decisions should involve a suitable adult and qualified human guidance where needed.

The DPDP framework restricts tracking, behavioural monitoring and targeted advertising involving children, subject to specific lawful exemptions and commencement dates. Being an education-related business does not automatically establish an exemption. Child assessment and AI features require that legal assessment before activation; consent cannot authorise prohibited processing.

04Who can see a student’s information

A parent, school or counsellor must not be assumed to have unrestricted access to every student record. Access needs a defined lawful purpose, appropriate authority and proportionate permissions. A school must establish its authority before transferring student information, and its agreement must define roles and permitted use. Adult purchasing does not permit public posting of a child’s reports, photographs, testimonials or other private information without the necessary permissions.

05Requests, withdrawal and reaching adulthood

A verified parent or lawful guardian may contact admin@educareerspath.com about information, correction, erasure or withdrawing permission, subject to applicable law and reasonable verification. The team must explain any retention required by law and the consequences for services needing that information. When a student reaches adulthood, account control and permissions must be reviewed; parental access must not be assumed to continue indefinitely.

06Unexpected child data and safety concerns

If a child has submitted information without the required authority, tell us at admin@educareerspath.com with enough account information to locate the issue. Do not attach unnecessary sensitive records. The operator must assess restriction, deletion and any required notifications. EduCareersPath is not an emergency or crisis service. For immediate danger, contact local emergency services and a trusted adult.
